When her hand touched the wood stock of a musket lying in a field of debris on the bottom of Lake Michigan, all that remains of the once palatial sidewheel steamer Lady Elgin, it ignited a passion for the study of the Lakes deadliest disaster which occurred in 1860 and resulted in the deaths of more than 300 people.  Valerie Van Heest, an award winning author, and member of the Women Divers Club Hall of Fame, brings the audience back in time... the golden age of passenger travel on the great lakes. the eve of a presidential election. the brink of Civil War. a story night when 400 excursionists faced a life or death struggle in the violent waters, and then... the bottom of Lake Michigan to explore the historic wreckage of the Lady Elgin.
